History of Tirrell Pond:  In 1831 a colony of four cabins was written about by Henry Abbott.  In 1851 a Catholic priest purchased 12,500 acres of land on the south shore.  Tirrell Pond was a colony of 16 cabins and a church settled by Irish immigrants (Pat Tirrell - foreman).  Henry LaPrairie did have a small inn, but it was burned down in 1917 by the local game warden.  The wilderness has now reclaimed this unique piece of land and it is hard to find physical evidence of any past structures.
