FATHER & SON HUNTING GETAWAY IN THE ADIRONDACKS

September 24, 2004 - September 26, 2004

Meet Jonathan & Vahid
Jonathan & Vahid came to the Adirondacks for a duel purpose. Vahid was going to do some scouting while Jonathan took his hunter safety course.

Vahid headed off the next morning for familar territory to scout for the upcoming hunting season.

Vahid was able to located several different locations to his liking.

(Left) - The Fall foliage was beginning to appear and was an excellent time to check out the area. (Right) - During Vahid and Jonathan's excursion here, we also received Joe & Tim (hikers along the NLP).

Jonathan didn't get to experience much daylight or sleep time at Back To Basics. I (Kim) meant him in Ravena on Friday evening for part I of the hunter safety course. Ravena is about an 1 1/2 from what we call home.

That evening the course was from 6-10pm. We arrived home close to midnight and had to depart again in the am by 6 in order to reach Ravena for Part II. When we arrived home, everyone was waiting for dinner. We greeted the new hikers (Joe & Tim) and turned in about 2 am.

Let us tell you 6 am came way to early!!

Saturday evening, when Jonathan and I arrived back. The guys had returned from their scouting trip. Jonathan & I both passed the course - it was time to kick back and relax.

Sunday morning brought a new day. It was time for some target shooting for Jonathan & I, and sighting for Vahid.

Jonathan & I were anxious about going last evening, but it was dusk and raining by the time we arrived back home. Today would be different!

(Left) - Dan decided to sight in his shotgun during the days events also. (Right) - Doug our neighbor also came along and as always we love to have him. Doug is experienced in the muzzleloading techniques and taught Kim alot that day. Thank you!

Prior to the days events. Doug taught me to clean the muzzleloader, the gear needed and why, and my first shot ever. During the target practice, I also learned safety techniques as well as what to do if (which I did do a couple of times). At the conclusion of the day, I was presented with how to clean and why. Kim has to tell you, very thankful for the whys - it means more.

(Left) - After the hunter safety course and one-on-one instruction, I did still hesitate in the process - had to take it all in. (Right) Martha (Doug's Wife) also came along to watch the events. Never asked her why she didn't shoot that day?

The group was ready!!!!

Doug, after showing me the muzzleloading technique, turned to Zara, his daughter, it was her turn. Needless to say, he's in trouble now - she loves it at 9 years of age (Dan & I do hear shoots occasional from across the street - maybe Kim has a new partner)!

Vahid's Turn

Everyone played fair, was safe, and took turns throughout the day.

The local sand pit makes an excellent area for target shooting!

Vahid had brought his shotgun;

(Left) - Doug his Muzzleloader (Right) - Kim her Muzzleloader.

(Left) - Jonathan needs (waiting his first firearm - but got to try them all). (Right) - Vahid's turn after our move forward.

Everyone got to try the moving up piece during target practice.

A new location with a new result!

It was warm that day, and being in the sand pit was like being in the desert. WATER PLEASE!

JONATHAN WAS READY!!!!!!!!!

The targets took a lot of wear and tear, by the end of the day - no targets were left to shoot at.

At the days end, we again had to say goodbye to Vahid and Jonathan, but look forward to seeing them in November for a weeks worth of hunting the Adirondacks!

The water boy??????

Jonathan did get to experience the Owl's Nest treehouse, but only briefly, to many activities to accomplish this weekend. NOVEMBER RELAXATION TO COME SHORTLY!!!!!!!!
