CAMPS DURING YOUR RETREAT
FAQ
![]() What is a Yurt?
A yurt is a strong and efficient structure that has been used in central Asia for more than 2,000 years. It is a portable shelter of canvas that is domed with an integration of tension and compression components that allow these structures to withstand heavy winds, rain and snow. In earlier days yurts were made of many materials - including but not limited to skins, felt and matting. They were used chiefly by nomads, hunters, and campers.
![]() What about Bears?
Yes, we do have black bears in Bleecker. Currently there is a mother with cubs who frequents the area. For this reason, we do ask you to be attentive to leaving food around, they are scavengers for an easy meal. The bears want nothing to do with YOU, and will smell your presence and be on their way long before your knowledge of them. Please remember that they were here first.
FYI: They do not open the doors (unless they knock first).
![]() What are the gizmo's on the Picnic table?
The gizmos on the tables outside, are for the mosquitoes, they do need to be lit in order to work.
What is the strange powder in the privy?
The powder in the privy is to be dumped into the privy after use. It is used to breakdown, dry out, and deodorize your personal business.
![]() What is the strange metal rod inside the yurt?
The metal rod hanging on the inside of your yurt is to open and close the yurt dome. The domes, however, only open an inch.

What is a lean-to?
A lean-to is a three-sided structure with an open front.
![]() Check-In/Check-Out Times?
Back To Basics tries to be very laid back in Check-In and Check-Out times. If no other guests are coming or going on the day of your arrival or departure. Our motto is: COME WHEN YOU WANT AND LEAVE WHEN YOU WANT. If guests are arriving, we do ask that check out be between 11-12, so that we have time to prepare the cabins for the next guests. That does not mean you need to leave the property, feel free to wander for the day and take in some activities prior to your departure.
