AN ADIRONDACK BASE CAMP

Meet Emily & Liz

July 27,2004 - July 30, 2004
Two sister (Emily & Liz) decided on a vacation to the Adirondack Mountains. Back To Basics was going to be used as an Adirondack Base Camp during the trip into the Silver Lake Wilderness.
Emily & Liz decided to have their sister vacation in the Adirondacks.  They were too use Back To Basics as a base camp before and after their trek into Silver Lake.

They departed early the next morning for Upper Benson and their goal was the Silver Lake Lean-to (7.4 miles)
They decided on a trip from Upper Benson to the Silver Lake Lean-To.
(7.4 miles)

The overnight camping trip provided rest and relaxation for Emily and Liz.
During their backpacking trip the camera did decide to visit the creek, but some pictures were saved.

Since they decided on a weekday excursion into the wilderness they had the trail to themselves along with the lean-to.
The Silver Lake Wilderness provides and excellent area for peace and quiet.  Emily & Liz had the lean-to to themselves for the evening.

Exploring the Silver Lake wilderness provides many scenic views along with alot of wildlife.
A wonderful remote area to discover and explore!

Emily and Liz even got the chance to enter the twilight zone.

Upon their safe return to back to basics they followed the trail back to their so called base camp Whitetail Run.  Emily seemed to have a wonderful time during their backpacking excursion.
Emily and Liz returned safety from the backpacking excursion, and were to spend their last night at Whitetail Run.

Upon their return to base camp, Emily and Liz decided on a little rest and relaxation.
Emily decided on a cat nap upon her return to Back To Basics.

Whitetail Run provided an excellent base camp for the sisters
After a little rest & relaxation, they were raring to go again.

Liz decided on checking out some of the Back To Basics trails.  Emily also was raring to go again.
It was time to check out the area.

Emily we learned is from the big city of New York and her career is in Education.
Emily & Liz arrived at the Main House at the same time, Dan & I were checking in our new guest Marty.  Marty was to deliver a slide show presentation tonight at the Caroga Lake Museum, and Emily and Liz decided on attending the Adirondack Fire Tower Presentation.

The treehouse is located down below Whitetail Run yurt and sits in a wonderful hardwood section of the property.  Emily and Liz seemed to like the idea.
The group decided to wander down to see how the treehouse was progressing.

Dan decided on a few black & white photographs along the trail.

Liz we learned resides in Maryland and also has an educational career.  Emily has here black & white photo taking outside of Whitetail Run base camp in the Adirondack Mountains.
SISTER'S NO DOUBT

The firetower presentation was held at the Caroga Lake Historical Museum.
Emily & Liz decided to do a little reading on the local brochures while waiting for the slide show presentation to begin.

It sounded easy enough, Shoot the Bear.  Maybe not that easy, Marty had more to the story.
Emily was surprised to participate in the role-playing event during the Adirondack Fire tower slide show, and did a wonderful job.

The participation of the audience was great, they really got into their new roles.
The role-playing was from actual Adirondack Fire Tower stories that Marty had learned during his travels from the families who had spent time with their loved ones atop these historical towers.

Emily was finally able to kill the bear, and found humor in the whole situation.
Emily even after here 8 mile hike today, found humor with her new role.
By the way, she was able to finally kill the bear.

Upon everyones return to Back To Basics we all sat down to a midnight BBQ at the Main House.  Eventhough everyone was tired, everyone ate well. The BBQ consisted of cheeseburgers and shrimp. We did learn that Emily was a vegetarian.
After the presentation had ended we all returned to the main house for a midnight BBQ.

Liz had to be tired after the days events:  a 7.4 mile hike out of Silver Lake Wilderness, exploring Back To Basics, the Adirondack Fire Tower Show, and a midnight BBQ.

A MIDNIGHT TOAST TO A WONDERFUL EVENING.
Marty upon his arrival to Back to Basics presented us with a bottle of wonderful Champagne, which we opened during the midnight BBQ to share with all for a wonderful evening.

"My sister & I came up here for a few days of hiking and relaxation.  After a rainy trip up here and a cozy night in the yurt, we took off on the N-P for Silver Lake.  It was another wet adventure but Silver Lake was worth it. Coming back here the following day was great, we relaxed, went to a talk on firetowers and shared a great BBQ.  Thanks to Dan & Kim for being such wonderful hosts.  We can't wait to come back!"
