ADIRONDACK FISHING AND FRIENDS
Meet Andre & Kerry
May 4, 2004 - May 7, 2004
![]() Andre & Kerry arrived in the Adirondacks to enjoy some backcountry fishing. They currently reside in Lansing, Michigan and it was more than a pleasure to have them at Back To Basics. I don't know who had more fun them or us.
![]() The morning of May 5th we prepared breakfast at the main house prior to departing for Powley Road. Andre & Kerry asked in advance for a low carb diet. This mornings breakfast was a sausage bake.
![]() Andre enjoyed breakfast also, but awaited departure for the fishing on Powley Road.
![]() Kerry we learned works for the State of Michigan. Following breakfast we departed for Powley Road for a day's fishing on the East & West Branch of Canada Creek. During the 20 minute ride we did see a few turkey along roadside.
![]() Upon arrival to Powley Road it only took Andre a minute to hit the water, with rain and all.
![]() Andre told Kerry it would be a nightmare for snags, but Andre could care less and lost quite a bit of tackle to the creek.
![]() A wonderful black and white of Andre fishing the Powley Road.
![]() I always seemed to get either the back of Kerry or no smile, and we were determined to change that by the end of the fishing trip.
![]() I left Andre and Kerry to the business at hand and drove up stream to check out how the other areas were doing.
![]() The Canada Creek provides a difficult task for the fisherman, but does challenge the best of them.
![]() Many trout fisherman find the creek a wonderful challenge, as did Andre and Kerry.
![]() I left our location with Kerry and Andre. They were to fish moving upstream and upon contact we would shuttle them up to the next section of the creek.
![]() I had moved upsteam and decided to head down along the river to see how Andre and Kerry were progressing with the fishing.
![]() Kerry & Andres' Land Rover prior to the next shuttle upstream.
![]() Creek Fishing continued in the pouring rain, but no bites yet!
![]() Kerry & Andre were determined to catch the big one even in the pouring rain.
![]() Kerry casts again!
![]() Does anyone have a clue what this plant is????
![]() Moving upstream with determination!!!
![]() Kerry decides to show a little smile, even in the rain.
![]() Kerry decides on a short break to watch her husband fish.
![]() Powley Road offers great opportunity for black and white photographs.
![]() A wonderful photo of Kerry's determination to catch that trout.
![]() A different shot here with some negative art.
![]() Andre worked his way to the opposite side of the creek, but did so with grace.
![]() Kerry gives it another whirl.
![]() An Adirondack picture, Kim was intrigued by.
![]() Andre carefully works his way back to shore.
![]() SO MUCH FOR CAREFULLY!!!!!!
![]() During the last fishing attempts we ended up in remote area of the Powley Road.
![]() Kerry awaited Andre's arrival with a smile on her face, the rain had finally stopped.
![]() Andre decided on a little J&B after his fishing trip. Martha our neighbor also came over to find out about the days fishing events. Tonight's dinner Chicken Dijion.
![]() The following morning May 6th we departed for Lily Lake for a remote fishing excursion.
![]() We arrived at West Lake following a morning of a low carb breakfast of French Toast.
![]() West Lake provided a wonderful canoe route for our remote fishing and camping excursion.
![]() We paddled through the calm outlet headed for West Lake. Kim was a bit hesitant and asked if the canoe would float with all the gear.
![]() The canoe paddling was "outstanding" and very calm during the early morning hours.
![]() Kim found the old rowboat along the shore line of West Lake and thought it would be a nice photo for the Basics.
![]() Kerry trying her fishing in West Lake
We learned at this point of the fishing trip, that Andre graciously donated his pole to the fish in West Lake. We made a brief pull over to reset Andre with a pole, while Kerry stated she would catch his fish for him. Popcorn was snoring enjoying his first ever canoe ride.
![]() A marvelous view of Kane Mountain Fire Tower from West Lake.
![]() Upon docking along Lily Lake in the Adirondacks, Kim thought a Back To Basics picture was at hand.
![]() We awaited Andre's and Cary's arrival to Lily Lake Campsite. They spent time explore the fishing along the way.
![]() When Andre and Kerry arrived, it was time to prepare camp for the evening. Andre & Kerry's tent was the Ritz compared to ours.
![]() Kim also prepared for the evening, while a fire was started for the black fly situation.
![]() After the camp chores where complete, Andre decided on some barefoot rock jumping with Popcorn to look for the evenings dinner.
![]() Kerry on the other hand prepared her pole.
![]() Andre now with a new pole, still maintained his determination at fishing the Adirondacks.
![]() Prior to supper, Andre and Kerry set out for an evening of fishing in the canoe along Lily Lake.
![]() We decided to take in some special effects on the camera during their fishing.
![]() A special effect picture taking during Andre and Kerry's Fishing Trip.
![]() Andre and Kerry attempted multiple locations during their evening excursion.
![]() ...but found the most bites were at home.
![]() Their tent was set in the remote shore of Lily Lake.
![]() They experienced it all, Kerry even was fortunate enough to catch the local shoreline tree, but Andre quickly responded.
![]() Kerry displays her catch of the evening (we know it wasn't what you were looking for, but means alot to us).
![]() Andre and Kerry attempt the calm waters off Lily Lake.
![]() Andre returns with their catch of the evening: Perch and Splake.
Andre pround of their evening dinner, Kim found out fish is great served with Italian Dressing.
![]() Andre prepares his evening catch with Italian Dressing in his mess kit. Can't ask for more over an open fire.
![]() Kerry is also excited about the day's catch.
![]() Kerry watches the fish simmering over the open campfire as Kim watches the Beef Stroganoff.
![]() ANTICIPATION OF FOOD, FOLLOWING A HARD DAYS WORK.
![]() Kerry and Kim prepare the day's catch along with extra's.
![]() During the excursion on Lily Lake we also took in the wildlife.
![]() Andre made sure all was in order upon their return from fishing.
![]() Andre and Kerry worked well as a wilderness team and also husband and wife, eventhough Kerry forgot her Crystal Ball.
![]() We arrived home to West Lake the next morning following a rough canoe crossing.
West Lake Launch in the Adirondack Mountains.
![]() After preparing for the canoes, we also prepared the vehicles.
![]() We arrived safety home and unloaded from the excursion.
![]() Kerry let us know that all had survived the backcoountry wilderness fishing trip and exploration with a smile on her face.
"Since day #1 of correspondence we knew that trip to "Back To The Basics" was gonna be special. Little did Kerry & I realize on arrival did we expect a welcome of friendship; not a tour guide, not a commercial service, but a warm & greeting "join our family" type of atmosphere. Needless to say, our stay has been fulfilling, bountiful at what the Adirondacks has to offer (and will offer future trips here), but most of all this trip has bonded a friendship. Thank you so much!"
OUTSTANDING!
Love,
ANDRE & KERRY
